In the gate between Nacrene City and Route 3, you can talk to the PKMN Breeder there and she'll offer to give you a Pokemon Egg. If you say Yes and have room in your party, you'll receive an egg that will eventually hatch into a Happiny.
On the actual route, there's a School Kid near the entrance that will fight you in a Rotation Battle. She uses a Skiploom L61, a Jumpluff L61, and a Bellossom L61. There's a Quick Ballright next to her, too.
Cross the bridge for now, but keep in mind there's some hidden stuff you can reach if you useSurf. Swing down through the grass on the other side of the bridge and fight the Fisherman there, who uses a Slowpoke L61, a Goldeen L61, and a Seaking L61. Right past him is a Zinc.
If you have a Pokemon that can Surf, now's your chance to use that to cross the water to the north. There's a small patch of land directly north that may seem empty, but it actually has aHidden Grotto by it.

To the west of that is another patch of land. The Fisherman there is the ubiquitous Magikarp guy, having a team consisting of six Magikarp, all at level 58. Have fun with that. West of him is a hidden Ultra Ball in the blank patch of grass. Up the steps is a Full Restore to the right and a Calcium to the left. That's all there is, though, so head back on over to the bridge.
East of the bridge, the route continues, with a fence separating the dirt path from some thick grass. Inside of the thick grass is a School Kid that will battle you in a Triple Battle, so be ready for him. He uses a Xatu L61 (middle), Fearow L61 (left), and Natu L61 (right). Just past him is an excellent Big Nugget, which can be sold for $30,000 to the ore maniac in Icirrus City. Nice! To the north of him is also another Hidden Grotto.

Anyway, go back onto the road and follow it north. You'll have to fight Backers, who use aPachirisu L62 and an Emolga L62 in a Double Battle. Take them out, then head north until you find yet another branch in the path. Before you decide where to go, step into the grass and pick up the Ultra Ball.
To the east leads you to your destination, Striaton City, while heading over to the west takes you to an optional location, the Wellspring Cave. It's your decision which direction to go, though.
I'll start with the Wellspring Cave route, so head on over to the west and follow the path until you find a cave. That's the entrance to the Wellspring Cave. There's also a Lass who will fight you using her Vulpix L62 and a Flareon L62. There's also a Nugget hiding over by her.

Making sure you have a Pokemon that can use Flash is recommended before proceeding too far, because the basement is very dark and requires Flash to see very far. Surf is also required to reach the basement.
Anyway, there's a Hiker that can be fought near the entrance, as long as you climb up the steps up to the nearby ledge. He uses a Hippowdon L61, a Marowak L61, and a Rhydon L61. Just past him is a Max Repel.
Surf over to the west to pick up an Escape Rope and fight a Battle Girl, who has a MedichamL62, a Hitmonlee L62, and a Mienshao L62. Follow the path to the south and then to the east until you find stairs leading down into the basement.
Wellspring Cave B1F
The basement is very dark, so now's the time to use Flash to light it up. Head down the steps to the east and then head north, going east until you run into the Black Belt. He's got a SawkL62, a Conkeldurr L62, and a Breloom L62. Surf across the water by the Black Belt to reach aMax Revive, but don't jump down the ledge near it unless you want a trip back to the beginning!
North of the Black Belt is a Battle Girl. She uses a Primeape L62, a Hitmonchan L62, and aScrafty L62. Just above her are some steps leading up, although the path branches off in two directions. Take the past west from the steps and follow it south to reach TM47 (Low Sweep), which is a Fighting-type attack that lowers the foe's Speed afterwards.
Go back to the branch point except go east instead. Take the path south in order to find a hidden Carbos. Head back except head down the stairs just past that southern path to pick up the Protector, which evolves your Rhydon into Rhyperior when you trade it while it is equipped. Nifty.
Head north of the Protector until you find some steps leading down to a Black Belt. He's got aThroh L62, a Hitmontop L62, and a Machamp L62. Surf up to the north and you'll find a Veteran. He has a bunch of Pokemon on his team! He's got a Gyarados L62, a Druddigon L62, an Excadrill L62, a Gigalith L62, a Crobat L62, and a Snorlax L62. After taking down his legion of Pokemon, head north and pick up your prize: TM52 (Focus Blast), a powerful — although inaccurate — Special-based Fighting-type attack with a respectable 120 power. If only it didn't have 70% accuracy, it'd be nice, but since several non-Fighting-type Pokemon can learn it, including many Psychic-types, it is still handy in certain situations.
East of the Veteran is a hidden Max Revive, too, which you should definitely pick up. Additionally, there's a hidden Ultra Ball on the patch of land to the west of him, although you'll need to Surf over to it if you want it.
route 3
Well, that's all there is to do in the Wellspring Cave. To get out quickly, you could always use that Escape Rope, haha. Or if you feel like taking the scenic route, head south from the hidden Ultra Ball along the water and you'll reach the entrance to the basement.
Now, heading east from the fork in the road leads you over to some Twins. Don't worry, though, because they won't fight you. Up the steps is the Day Care Center, where you can drop off one or two of your Pokemon. It's also where you can breed a compatible male and female Pokemon. The house to the left of that is a nursery.
Talk to the Nursery Aide directly inside and she'll heal up your Pokemon. There's a Rare Candyfor you to munch on in the top-right corner of the room, too. Outside, the Nursery Aide blocking the entrance to the playground will battle you, and she uses a Jigglypuff L61, aPurugly L61, and a Lickitung L61. There are three Preschoolers playing in the playground. The girl uses a Kirlia L61 and a Pikachu L61. The boy next to her uses a Beldum L61 and a DeinoL61. Lastly, the boy on the slide uses a Riolu L61 and a Ledian L61. There's also a hidden Rare Candy in the sandbox.
Well, that's all there is to do here, so head further east along the road south of the Day Care Center until you reach Striaton City!
