X&Y Lumiose City

Lumiose City

As you enter the gate to Lumiose City, Sina and Dexio will be waiting for you. They'll talk about Pokémon's happiness and will give you TM27 Return, which has higher power depending on how happy your Pokémon is with you.
Enter the city and then Sina will direct you over towards Professor Sycamore's lab, over to the west. It's a bit of a walk, but it's the lab that's set back a bit. That's your next destination.
You're currently on the South Boulevard of Lumiose City. Central and Northern Lumiose City are unfortunately experiencing a power outage, so you won't be able to visit those areas until later. Despite that, there's still plenty for you to do.
Before you get too sidetracked, though, you should head on over towards the lab. Keep in mind that the camera will pan in a rather dynamic manner as you travel around the city, so it may take a bit of getting used to.
If your Pokémon are fairly weakened, you should not enter the lab just yet, but go to the Pokémon Center directly across from it. The Pokémon Center also has a guy in there who will exchange Poké Miles for prizes. You earn Poké Miles for traveling around and meeting other players, particularly ones from far, far away, such as other countries.
The Pokémon Center's Poké Mart also sells TMs for you, although they're rather pricey.

Anyway, back at the Sycamore Pokémon Laboratory, he's waiting for you on the third floor, but stop by the second floor and talk to the lady by the glowing blue pillar on the left to receive 5 Luxury Balls.
Now, take the elevator up to the third floor and you'll be greeted by Professor Sycamore for the first time since the very start of the game.
Follow him over to his office, where he'll talk for awhile about various things. Your friends Shauna and Serena will then show up, and Sycamore will suggest you have a Pokémon battle. No, not with each other, but with him! You'll have a chance to back out if you need to heal, but when you're ready, go ahead and talk to him to begin the fight!

He uses Bulbasaur L10, Charmander L10, and Squirtle L10. Their levels aren't too threatening, but their type coverage can be rather tricky depending on who you've trained, so make sure you're able to match up types against his three starter Pokémon.
After you've beaten him, he'll compliment you and call you a fantastic Trainer, and will then give you one of the three Kanto starter Pokémon he just used against you. That's right, you'll have a choice between Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle!

While you most certainly can, you'll probably want to pick a Kanto starter that does not share a type with your Kalos starter. Beyond that advise, either of these three are great, so pick whichever one you have a preference for.
Depending on the one you choose, you'll receive the appropriate Mega Stone for it — Venusaurite for Bulbasaur, Blastoisinite for Squirtle, and then either Charizardite X or Charizardite Y depending on which version you're playing.
These will have no effect for now, but you'll be able to use these later on to Mega Evolve your Kanto starter Pokémon into its Mega Evolution!
After Tierno and Trevor show up, Professor Sycamore will talk for awhile longer about wanting you to solve Kalos' biggest mystery: the secret and potential of Mega Evolution.
Anyway, after you all disperse, talk to the assistant on the third floor. She'll give you TM54 False Swipe to help you catch Pokémon. False Swipe is a Normal-type attack that deals a weak amount of damage, but also won't knock out a foe, making it great for weakening Pokémon you want to catch.
After heading down the elevator, you'll see a man with wild red hair in the lobby. He introduces himself as Lysandre. He talks for a bit about various things, such as how he wants to see a more beautiful world and that you have a Holo Caster.
Your friends will come down the elevator and will disperse shortly afterwards. Serena wants to meet you at Café Soleil, which is further past the lab and also where the exit onto Route 5 is.
At this point, you're free to explore the whole Southern Boulevard, along with one of the alleys.

Southern Boulevard

Café Soleil

When you reach the outside of Café Soleil, Serena will invite you in. Go on and follow her, and then you'll see Lysandre and a girl named Diantha talking in the back of the cafe. Serena explains the Lysandre is the head of Lysandre Labs while Diantha is a famous movie star.
They'll talk for a bit about how she's a movie star and how he wants her to be eternally beautiful or something along those lines, then he'll leave and Diantha will introduce herself to you and Serena before leaving as well.
After you've completed this scene, you'll be able to proceed to Route 5 whenever you want, although there's still plenty more to do in Lumiose City.

PR Video Studio

You'll find Shauna outside of the PR Video Studio building, where you can go to record a quick 10 second video introduction.
Inside of the building, talk to the man on the left counter and he'll ask which of the three styles you want: Energetic, Cool, or Fun. Choose one and you'll do a quick 10 second video for your Trainer PR.
This fun video is shown when you're entering a battle with another player or something.
You can talk to the lady in the back by the green screen and she'll give you the Lens Case, which you can use to switch your contact lenses around, giving you different eye colors.

Coiffure Clips

There's a Hair Salon near the exit onto Route 5. Inside, you can change your hair style, hair color, or change both for $3,000. This is rather expensive at this point in the game, but it's chump change later on, so you're best off waiting until later before splurging on a fancier hairdo.

Building to the Right of Route 5

The building to the right of Route 5, along the outer edge of buildings, is where they study catching Pokémon. Talk to the girl sitting on the bench on the left and she'll give you a Quick Claw, which can be held by a Pokémon to give it a chance of going first in battle, regardless of its Speed.
On the second floor of that building, you can talk to two guys at the computer to receive 3 Timer Balls and 3 Quick Balls between the two of them.

Restaurant Le Nah

You are able to fight against Trainers in Double Battles here while eating. Cool! (Yeah I need to add more on this.)

Vernal Avenue

Vernal Avenue can be found by the Pokémon Center and it's the only other branch of Lumiose City you can visit at this point.

Boutique Couture

This boutique shop apparently sells fancy clothes and accessories, but they deem you not fancy enough and tell you to come back better dressed. Well!

Café Classe

Café Classe will tell you about the various boutiques in the cities of Kalos. Beyond that, there's nothing exciting in here.

Stone Emporium

You can buy Fire Stones, Leaf Stones, and Water Stones for $2,100 each in here. That's very handy if you're looking to evolve your Panpour, Pansage, or Pansear.

Herboriste

You can buy the herbal medicine here for relatively cheap, but it's bitter and will make your Pokémon less friendly towards you. It's still a good place to buy the Revival Herbs, which are capable of reviving your Pokémon to full health, at the cost of $2,800 each.

Friseur Furfrou

If you have a Furfrou, you can get it styled here.

Café Woof

Another cafe, this one dedicated to Furfrou and discussion of Furfrou.

Route 5 Terminus

Upon entering the gateway to Route 5, you'll be greeted by a man in pink named Mr. Bonding. He tells you about O-Powers and how they can be used to give your Pokémon various boosts, similar to the Pass Powers of Generation V games.
Afterwards, he'll let you enter Route 5 and proceed towards Camphrier Town.
